I know a lot has been said on this safety subject over the past months since this thread started but having just seen the ESPN story has prompted me to add to this.
The too much of a hurry to move up is so valid I think. You can partake in this sport for a very long time, there is no age barrier to being the best. Some of those Olympic riders are testament to that. Gee look at Karen OC for instance, she is now 50 years old.
What also i liked about the ESPN piece was Denny's comment about paper-mache' (sp) jumps. It sort of lends itself towards CC becoming more like showjumping where hitting a fence and bringing it down would cause a loss of points but wouldnt risk your life or that of your horse.
That has to be something worth looking into.
