Why the hurry? - 2008/04/22 03:01 Seems like there is an awful hurry amoung competitors to move up and through the divisions like wildfire! Just wondering why folks don't take the time with themselves and their horses to compete successfully in the lower levels prior to moving on. There is no shame in staying under Training level, Novice, Beginner Novice until the time comes that horse/rider wishes to "climb the ladder" if in fact that is their goal at all. Been to one too many a horse trial, seeing scary XC rides with either horse or rider ill prepared in a division they are not ready for. With all that is going on with rider/horse injuries and deaths....either due to over ambitious course designers, owners selling horses with a bigger price tag due to competing in a two star, trainers pushing students to quickly, etc.......shouldn't we all just take a chill pill? Kind of a neat thought.....take time to get the ABC's down, let horse and rider gain some confidence and experience some fun, take the time to reevaluate the pair's progress, choose goals (both short and long term), and equip them for safe and victorious rides. Just a thought....and I know what they say about opinions.
