All tracks led to Pine Top Farm in Thomson GA last weekend for the first main advanced competition of the season on a beautiful weekend for Eventing at a great location. The usual contingent were there with a few other surprises. Phillip Dutton and Kim Severson both who have been prominent in the winter trials so far this year gave excellent indications of what is to come. The Aussie Dutton had a mixed weekend though and many riders found the new direction of the Cross Country course something extra to think about.
Certainly making time was out of the question for some and traveling safe was more likely a prime concern. On Hannigan, Dutton and the TB took the prize in the A Test Section 3 with 3.2 time faults on CC and 29.6 at dressage, it was comfortable win. Dutton also went 5th on Handyman Hughie, 10th on Volli Nolli and 7th on his old favorite, House Doctor after being 2nd after Dressage. Kim Severson reserved her best for a 1st and 2nd place in A test C. With 16yr old Royal Venture receiving 4 penalties in Show Jumping there was still room to spare over the 2nd placed Winsome Adante, Kim's much traveled and successful partner for many years. John Williams new course designer for the Pine Top Farm event capped off that success by taking out an Inter. Section 1 on youngster Sweetpea Dean. In the YR Open Intemediate it was Canadian Kelly List on her mount Minstral who took out the blue ribbon consistent during all three phases to take victory. Other Open Ints. went to Christy Price from VA on Barbers Berber and Bonnie Mosser from PA on her English gelding and 2002 Foxhall winner, Jenga. Becky Holder from MN took out an Inter. Section 2 on Glorious Joy improving from a 5th place here last month. |
